Golfers across Guyana teed off Sunday, September 20, at Lusignan Golf Club for the SBM Offshore Guyana Golf Tournament, one of the country’s most anticipated club events of the year. Play got underway at 8:00 a.m. under a medal-play format, with competitors chasing top finishes across three overall placings as well as special prizes for longest drive, best gross score, and nearest to the pin.
The tournament is sponsored by SBM Offshore Guyana, the local arm of the floating production, storage and offloading specialist active in the country’s offshore oil and gas sector.
Martin Cheong, the company’s Country General Manager, joined Lusignan Golf Club Captain Ayube Subhan in welcoming competitors to the course, with organizers framing the day as much about supporting golf development in Guyana as crowning a winner.
Food and drinks were laid on for players and spectators throughout the day, keeping the event’s atmosphere closer to a club social than a strict competitive grind, even as the leaderboard for first, second, and third place stayed tightly contested.
