Darina Betschart and Lewis MacFarlane ran away with the Bermuda Mixed Championship at Turtle Hill Golf Course over the weekend, finishing at 12-under-par 96 to win the Championship Flight by eight strokes.
The pair set the pace from the start, leading after the opening round with a 5-under-par 49. They then pulled clear with a closing 7-under-par 47, the lowest round of the championship, to leave the rest of the field well behind.
Two teams shared second place at 4-under-par 104: Tracy Burgess and Richard Marriott (49, 55) and Ann Symonds and Walter Jackson (53, 51). Katrin Burnie and Roderick Forrest were fourth at 3-under-par 105 (52, 53), with James Godwin and Linda Down fifth at 1-over-par 109 (54, 55).
In the First Flight, Brent Giannone and Jaime Giannone led wire-to-wire to win by seven strokes at 9-over-par 117 (60, 57). Darrin Lewis and Kimberly Lewis were second at 14-over-par 122, and Richard Hazelwood and Sarah Eggen finished third on 141.
Elsewhere in Bermudian golf, Daniel Augustus closed with an even-par 72 at the Clutch Pro Tour’s Tier 1 Tour Championship at Slaley Hall in Northumberland, England, improving each day after rounds of 84 and 75 to finish tied for 62nd. Augustus earned an exemption into the 2027 Butterfield Bermuda Championship through last month’s local qualifier.
Attention on the island now turns to this year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which returns to Port Royal Golf Course on October 22–25 with local qualifiers Nick Jones and Camiko Smith in the field.
